Dr Manny Ling is a world renowned calligrapher and he is an Honorary Fellow of the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society. He is a also Senior lecturer in Design at the University of Sunderland. His work is featured in numerous publications and he has exhibited in the UK, France, Finland and Australia.

This taster session will introduce you to the writing of calligraphy with a broad edged pen. You will be introduced to the main tools and materials for calligraphy. We will be exploring the Italic script with pen, ink and paper. The session will introduce you to the fundamental principles of calligraphy such as pen angle, proportion, rhythm, etc. The workshop will provide all tools and materials.

In this workshop Deidre will look at traditional methods of bookbinding that can be used to make notebooks or for binding of “artist book, using basic hand tools and looking at resources and materials.
