Hartlepool, bookmaking @the Welly!

14 Apr

Print & Bookmaking @the Welly in Hartlepool.  The session included a whole morning of bookmaking from Chap Map Books, Japanese Stab Bound and a seven hole pamphlet stitch.

The project is attempting to explore the theme of identity and what it is like, as a young person, to live in Hartlepool.

The afternoon session began with a brief brainstorming exploring aspects of Hartlepool.  As a non-Hartlepool person, I learnt a few things about the town, park, history, seaside and a bit of dialect!  The groups chose to explore positive and negatives – happy to see the positives easily outweighed the negatives!

Participants then used these brainstorming ideas to develop a series of collages using newspaper, stamps, simple printmaking, calligraphy pens to illustrate some of the themes.  These ideas will then be developed into silk-screen prints.
